Programs: Orphanages

Goods for Good’s Orphanage program provides material necessities and targeted program support to local orphanages in Malawi.

While the majority of orphans remain in their villages living with extended family and receiving services from community based organizations, some children are placed in orphanages as the result of extreme circumstances such as abandonment or domestic abuse.

Goods for Good works directly with one such orphanage: St. Mary’s Rehabilitation Centre. St. Mary’s provides food, shelter and education for several hundred children. However, the organization lacks adequate and reliable access to material resources. Since 2004, G4G has provided eight tons of material support in the form of clothing, educational toys, school supplies and health and hygiene products to St. Mary’s. Through this partnership, the orphanage is better able to meet the comprehensive needs of the children they serve.

Program Prose

"We were so happy to get the clothing at this time because during the rainy season the children need more warm and dry clothing than we could give them.”

- Sister Rosemary, Assistant Director of St. Mary’s Rehabilitation Centre, Malawi

“We received so many things from Goods for Good. The children are not getting these things from anywhere [else] and so it is a great help to our children and those in the local schools and community!”

- Sister Rosemary, Assistant Director of St. Mary’s Rehabilitation Centre, Malawi
