Africare is a leader among private, charitable U.S. organizations assisting Africa, as well as the oldest and largest African American led organization in the field. Africare’s program priorities include: health and HIV/AIDS, food security and agriculture, water resource development, environmental management, literacy and vocational training, microenterprise development, civil society development, governance and emergency response. In Malawi, Goods for Good partners with Africare’s Sanitation in the Schools program, which improves water and sanitation infrastructure in public primary schools in Dowa District. Since 2007, Goods for Good has provided school materials to schools under this Africare program.
APPM has been promoting and coordinating early childhood education in Malawi since 1970. APPM was instrumental in creating the early childhood development curriculum with UNICEF that is now in use across Malawi. G4G has partnered with APPM to provide an early childhood education-training workshop for our program partner, Tiyambe Nawo Community Based Organization.
Since 2000, Consol Homes has been at the helm of promoting community participation in the care and support of orphans and other vulnerable children for social, educational and economic advancement. Community members from Kalolo, central Malawi, established Consol Homes and today manages over 103 community based organizations providing services to thousands of orphans, vulnerable children and their families. G4G supports the work of Consol Homes through extensive material support programs to vulnerable children, their schools and households.
NOVOC is the national umbrella organization of grassroots groups serving vulnerable children, and functions as a resource and training network. NOVOC aims to equip members with the skills, tools, and information necessary to meet the needs of vulnerable children and their caregivers. G4G collaborated with NOVOC in 2008 to conduct a capacity assessment and training for our program partner, Tiyambe Nawo Community Based Organization.
St. Mary’s Rehabilitation Centre is an orphan care center providing services to close to one thousand orphans. St. Mary’s is home to 130 children and provides home and school based services to several hundred others. The organization provides essential school support, material support, medical care and food to orphans and vulnerable children. G4G provides ongoing material support to St. Mary’s.
Founded and run by Malawians, Tiyambe Nawo is a community-based organization operating in a group of 63 villages. The organization’s mission is to serve, support and strengthen the most vulnerable groups in the surrounding areas, including the elderly, the chronically sick and orphans. Tiyambe Nawo programs address the social, physical, moral and spiritual needs or the orphans they serve and Goods for Good partners with them to meet material needs of this holistic program. The organization serves over 150 vulnerable children under the age of five daily and 500 children ages 0-18 in a Saturday program every fortnight.
