G4G Packs a Punch!

Recently one hot Sunday morning in August, 15 Goods for Good volunteers gathered at the G4G warehouse in New Jersey. The group, made up of church volunteers, high school students and long-standing friends of the organization, spent the day sorting and packing clothing, pens and school supplies for shipment to Malawi. Thanks to their hard work, it was our most successful packing party ever, and we prepared an entire 20-foot container for shipment. The shipment left for Malawi the first week of September, and is scheduled to arrive in November. It will provide pens for 30,000 school children, school bags for 1,500, teacher supplies for 16 classrooms and clothing for over 6,000 children. Thank you to all our volunteers!

Deerfield Elementary School Donates $780 to G4G

On June 6th, the Student Council at Deerfield Elementary School in New Jersey presented Goods for Good with a check for $780. The donation was the result of a school-wide fundraising campaign lead by long-time G4G supporters, high school junior Alex Berkenkamp and 7th grade student Scott Meyers. In addition, Scott generously donated $500 of his own money from his Bar Mitzvah. This campaign helped to raise awareness about the lives of students in Malawi, and the money donated will help fund G4G's next shipment of school supplies.

Goods for Good: A Video Postcard from Malawi

Last November, Matt Katz, a journalist and good friend of Goods for Good, came to stay with Jeremy and me in Malawi. For Matt, who has watched G4G evolve over the past few years, this first visit to Africa brought everything into focus.

During his stay, Matt experienced the beauty of the country and the warmth of its people, as well as the devastation caused by HIV/AIDS, drought and famine. He also had the chance to see G4G in action and the impact our work is having in the lives of thousands of children. Matt was so moved by his experience that he filmed a short documentary on G4G's work. To watch the video go to See Us in Action, Videos or watch it on YouTube.

2008 Spring Newsletter

Goods for Good is 2 years old!

It's hard to believe, but in April, Goods for Good (GFG) will celebrate its second anniversary.

During our first two years, GFG has distributed almost 100 tons of clothing, educational supplies and health and hygiene products to over 500,000 children in Malawi and Liberia. We also expanded our team, established sustainable partnerships with local and international organizations and opened our new office in Lilongwe, Malawi - our first office in Africa!

In addition to being a little older we're also a little wiser. Our experience living in Malawi has helped us refine our approach and launch comprehensive new programs to reach thousands more children.
