Our partners in Malawi and Liberia are the real heroes. Their dedication to serving orphans and vulnerable children is a constant source of inspiration and hope. Whether in a community based organization, a rural public school or an orphanage, it is the thousands of caregivers, teachers and administrators that make our work meaningful.


Africare
Africare is a leader among private, charitable U.S. organizations assisting Africa, as well as the oldest and largest African American led organization in the field. Africare’s program priorities include: health and HIV/AIDS, food security and agriculture, water resource development, environmental management, literacy and vocational training, microenterprise development, civil society development, governance and emergency response. In Malawi, Goods for Good partners with Africare’s Sanitation in the Schools program, which improves water and sanitation infrastructure in public primary schools in Dowa District. Since 2007, Goods for Good has provided school materials to schools under this Africare program.

Association of Pre-School Playgroups Malawi (APPM)
APPM has been promoting and coordinating early childhood education in Malawi since 1970. APPM was instrumental in creating the early childhood development curriculum with UNICEF that is now in use across Malawi. G4G has partnered with APPM to provide an early childhood education-training workshop for our program partner, Tiyambe Nawo Community Based Organization.

Bright Vision Orphan Care and Youth Club
Founded and run by Malawians, Bright Vision is a community-based organization operating in a rural area outside the Malawi capital city of Lilongwe. The organization’s mission is to promote and improve the quality of life and welfare of orpahns and vulnerable children, the chronically ill, and the elderly. Bright Vision manages an after-school program serving 30 vulnerable youth, and a nursery school assisting 90. The organization also offers a tailoring vocational training program for older orphans. Goods for Good provides materials to support Bright Vision’s programs and beneficiaries.

Consol Homes
Since 2000, Consol Homes has been at the helm of promoting community participation in the care and support of orphans and other vulnerable children for social, educational and economic advancement. Community members from Kalolo, central Malawi, established Consol Homes and today manages over 106 community based organizations providing services to over 30,000 orphans and vulnerable children and their families. G4G supports the work of Consol Homes through extensive material support programs to vulnerable children, their schools and households.

Kapudzama Orphan and AIDS Support
Founded and run by Malawians, Kapudzama is a community-based organization operating in a rural area outside the Malawi capital city of Lilongwe. The organization’s mission is to help orphans by making the area a better place for them. Kapudzama accomplishes this mission by offering programming for vulnerable youth and a nursery school for the young children in the area. The organization also operates a highly successful community garden and manages a youth band. Collectively, Kapudzama’s programs serve over 650 orphans and vulnerable children. Goods for Good provides materials to support Kapudzama’s programs and beneficiaries.

Luzi Orphan Care Community Based Organization
Founded and run by Malawians, Luzi is a community-based organization operating in a rural area outside the Malawi capital city of Lilongwe. The organization’s mission is to reduce the suffering of children from the impact of HIV/AIDS. Luzi manages a large network of nursery schools that collectively educate over 2,000 children under the age of five, and youth programs that assist 850 vulnerable youth. The organization also offers several vocational training programs for older orphans, including training in welding and tailoring. Goods for Good provides materials to support Luzi’s programs and beneficiaries.

Mchezi Community Based Organization
Founded and run by Malawians, Mchezi is a community-based organization operating on the outskirts of the Malawi capital city of Lilongwe. The organization’s mission is to reach people and inform them of the dangers of HIV/AIDS, and mobilize communities to help those affected and infected. Mchezi operates a nursery school, an after-school program for vulnerable youth, and a tailoring vocational training program, reaching over 2,000 children in need. Goods for Good provides materials to support Mchezi’s programs and beneficiaries.

Network of Organizations for Vulnerable and Orphaned Children (NOVOC)
NOVOC is the national umbrella organization of grassroots groups serving vulnerable children, and functions as a resource and training network. NOVOC aims to equip members with the skills, tools, and information necessary to meet the needs of vulnerable children and their caregivers. G4G collaborated with NOVOC in 2008 to conduct a capacity assessment and training for our program partner, Tiyambe Nawo Community Based Organization.

St. Mary’s Rehabilitation Centre
St. Mary’s Rehabilitation Centre is an orphan care center providing services to close to one thousand orphans. St. Mary’s is home to 130 children and provides home and school based services to several hundred others. The organization provides essential school support, material support, medical care and food to orphans and vulnerable children. G4G provides ongoing material support to St. Mary’s.

Tiyambe Nawo Community Based Organization
Founded and run by Malawians, Tiyambe Nawo is a community-based organization operating in a group of 63 villages. The organization’s mission is to serve, support and strengthen the most vulnerable groups in the surrounding areas, including the elderly, the chronically sick and orphans. Tiyambe Nawo programs address the social, physical, moral and spiritual needs of the orphans they serve and Goods for Good partners with them to meet material needs of this holistic program. The organization serves over 190 vulnerable children under the age of five daily and 500 children ages 0-18 in a Saturday program every fortnight.

Good Multiplied

By partnering with grassroots organizations that have an on-the-ground presence and knowledge of their community, Goods for Good can reach children in need faster and more effectively. So far in 2009, G4G has extended support to six new organizations, which means reaching an additional 8,500 children.
