FAQ
Why should I give money to Goods for Good when there are so many other charities out there?
The Goods for Good model is cost effective and directly impacts the lives of our beneficiaries. Shipping costs are often less than 10% of the total value of the goods shipped. Additionally, because we rely heavily on volunteers and product donations, our overhead is low so the majority of donated money goes directly to helping children in need. Please go to Financials to learn more about the cost effectiveness and low overhead of G4G’s work.
Why should my company donate to Goods for Good?
Goods for Good is an ideal partner for any business that’s trying to cut back on waste, gain tax benefits, receive positive publicity and reduce inventory costs. Please go to Donate Goods to learn more about the benefits of becoming a corporate partner.
How do I find out if my company might have excess goods?
Almost every company, whether it manufactures goods or not, has surplus materials to donate. We recommend that you ask your warehouse management team or communications department if there are excess manufactured items or public relations materials such as promotional pens, pads of paper, plastic mugs, blankets, etc. that are not being used. Please go to Donate Goods to learn more about the type of goods we are looking for or email us at info@goods4good.org for more information.
My company already donates products to other organizations. Why should we donate to Goods for Good?
Goods for Good has developed a model of goods distribution that is efficient and effective. As a small but resourceful organization, G4G ensures that every contribution has a measurable impact on a child in need. Our team has developed direct relationships with each of our in-country partners and we continue to evaluate and improve our methods for distributing and tracking goods. As a result, donors of goods will see the direct effect of their contributions on the lives of the orphans and vulnerable children we serve. G4G accepts slightly imperfect and surplus goods of all quantities, large and small. For more information on the types of goods we are looking for, please go to Donate Goods or email us at info@goods4good.org.
Can I donate items that I have at home?
Goods for Good does not accept used items but gratefully accepts new/unused educational materials, clothing and household goods. Please go to Donate Goods to learn more about the type of goods we are looking for or email us at info@goods4good.org to find out if your items could be put to good use.
Will Goods for Good pick up the donated goods from my company, school or home?
Unfortunately, Goods for Good cannot pick up items; all donations must be shipped to one of our staging facilities in New Jersey. Please contact us at 212.957.2144 x15 or at info@goods4good.org for more information on how to send your donations.
Why does Goods for Good focus on African countries such as Malawi and Liberia?
Malawi and Liberia are among the five poorest countries in Africa. While their histories differ, they both have large populations of children in need and limited governmental infrastructure and resources to address the problem. In this setting, Goods for Good supports local organizations that are addressing the basic physical, educational and emotional needs of the children but lack the material resources required to care for the whole child. In the future we hope to expand our model to other countries in the region.
Does your work hinder local markets in recipient countries?
Goods for Good conducts extensive research on various variables within a recipient country before embarking on any project. As part of this research, we assess the country’s manufacturing industry to determine which goods are produced locally. We try to buy the locally produced items rather than ship and import them whenever possible. For example, in Malawi we purchase locally made pencils for grade one students at our partner schools rather than importing them.
How can you ensure that donated goods reach the children who need them most?
Goods for Good is vigilant about selecting reliable and reputable in-country partners and we continue to evaluate and improve our methods for distributing and tracking goods. We have conducted extensive primary and secondary research on all goods recipients and put in place mechanisms for understanding the needs of each partner organization, as well as its capacity for proper receipt and distribution of donated items. G4G’s US and Malawi-based staff closely monitors the shipping, arrival, distribution, use and impact of all donated items.
How can I volunteer for Goods for Good?
Our volunteers are the heart and hands of Goods for Good. If you are interested in volunteering, you can find more information on the Donate Time page or you can email us at info@goods4good.org.
